Shenzi is one of the three secondary antagonists alongside (alongside Banzai and Ed) of the 1994 Disney film The Lion King. She is the leader of the hyena tribe and a former minion of Scar.

She is voiced by Whoopi Goldberg in the first film and The Lion King 1 1/2.

History

Early Years

As revealed in A Tale of Two Brothers, Shenzi and her two minions, Banzai and Ed, cornered a young Rafiki and were about to eat him before they were foiled when King Ahadi came and forced the hyenas to leave. Later on, Shenzi advised Scar, then named Taka, to humiliate Mufasa to make himself look good in comparison. Taka's plan, however, led to him being injured by a herd of cape buffalo, leading him to rename himself Scar.
