History[]
Early Years[]
Mother Gothel was an old woman nearing the end of her life, and was the sole witness to a drop of sunlight falling down to the earth and resulting in the creation of a glowing flower with the ability to heal and reduce aging. Mother Gothel managed to harness the magic of the flower by singing a song to it, using the flower to remain young for hundreds of years. Nearby, a kingdom had been built and the pregnant Queen had fallen ill, to which her husband ordered a mass search for the flower. Despite Gothel's attempts to hide it, the flower was found and transported to the queen, which healed her and allowed her to give birth to a baby girl named Rapunzel. Mother Gothel began to age as a result and snuck into the castle at night, discovering that Rapunzel had been bestowed the flower's healing powers. Gothel attempted to cut off a lock of Rapunzel's hair to use, but it become brown and useless. In desperation, Gothel then abducted Rapunzel and hid her in a tower, raising her as her child and instilling in Rapunzel a fear of the outside world while also using Rapunzel's magical hair to remain young.
